disrupting how live performance reaches its audience.
I am Sophia Huang (黃舒郁), CEO of Ariel Innovations and founder and president of the International Performing Arts Consortium. After sixteen years of Silicon Valley data science, I returned to the industry I was trained for, bringing edge AI to the live stage. Augmentation, not replacement.

Who is Sophia Huang?
Sophia Huang (黃舒郁), Ed.D., is a statistician, data scientist, AI engineer, filmmaker, and theater producer. She is the CEO of Ariel Innovations, a Taiwanese edge-AI company founded in 2024 that launched the Ariel Innovations brand in 2025, and the founder and president of the International Performing Arts Consortium (IPAC). With Joseph Huang (黃奕勳) she invented Storytelling Supertitles™, on-device multilingual supertitles rendered inside the stage design — everything runs on the device in the venue, and nothing leaves the theatre. Utility patents are granted in Taiwan (×2) and Japan, and the system was demonstrated in ticketed performance at the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) on 12 October 2025. She previously spent sixteen years in data science, serving as Principal Researcher at the University of California, Office of the President, and leading people-analytics data science teams at Tesla, Pivotal Software, and Visa. She is a disrupter of the performing arts industry, using edge AI to change how live performance reaches its audience.
In her words
Why I bring technology into the theater
People often ask me: you run a technology company — why theater, of all things? My answer comes from a single moment in one of our own performances. When the light and imagery wrapped around the audience, no one was marveling at the technology. Everyone was holding their breath, watching the character.
That was the moment I knew: "wow" was never what I was after. The technology I want is the kind that disappears right after it astonishes you — and gives its place to the story. So the audience is no longer watching from behind a frame, but standing inside the character's world, seeing it through their eyes.
We all walk into the theater carrying our exhaustion — from work, from home, from everything society asks of us. What I want to give the audience is two full hours of escape: to leave your own life behind and live someone else's, once. What you carry home isn't the memory of special effects. It's the feeling of having understood another person — and of having been understood.
For me, the performing arts give technology its "why." This is theater's oldest promise, and we are simply keeping it with new tools. From the festivals of Dionysus to the proscenium stage, every time theater has absorbed the technology of its era, it has come out stronger.
So I never worry. The curtain never falls.
